Our house reef is a walk-in shore dive 25 km south of Hurghada on the Sahl Hasheesh peninsula. A coral wall drops directly off the beach from 5 to 30 metres. It's the strongest shore diving Hurghada has on offer: turtle sightings on most dives, eagle rays in summer, and the best macro life (octopus, frogfish in winter, leaf scorpionfish) within an hour of the city. €30 per dive vs €45 for a boat day, no marina to leave from.

Topography and dive profile
From the beach you swim 30 metres on the surface to the reef edge, then drop along a wall that runs from 5 down to 30 metres. The wall faces north and the current is usually light enough to ignore. Turtles park themselves on the ledges between 8 and 18 metres, often two or three on the same dive.
The shallow plateau (5-8 m) is perfect for the back half of the dive and for the safety stop. Octopus tucked into the coral heads on most dives, plus glassfish swarms and the occasional moray patrolling. Photographers love the late-afternoon light angle on the plateau.
